Announcement for a grant on GIS methodologies and ecological modeling

The research activity will be carried out within the ABIOMMED project

“SUPPORT COHERENT AND COORDINATED ASSESSMENT OF BIODIVERSITY AND MEASURES ACROSS MEDITERRANEAN FOR THE NEXT 6-YEAR CYCLE OF MSFD IMPLEMENTATION (EASME – DG ENV)”.

The project will focus on benthonisc habitats subject to anthropogenic impacts and on regional measures for the protection and conservation of the seabed with particular attention to the biological component (species, communities, habitats).

Requirements: Degree in Marine Sciences (according to the legislation in force prior to Italian Ministerial Dec. 509/99, or the Specialist / Master’s Degree (Italian Ministerial Dec. 05/05/04 and 09/07/09). Candidates who have achieved foreign University a degree declared “equivalent” by the competent Italian Universities or by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, in any case that have obtained recognition according to current legislation. The equivalence of qualifications obtained not in Italy (which have not already been recognized with the required formal procedure), will be assessed by the Selection Committee for the possible admission of the candidate to the selection.

Announcement for a grant on experiments in marine restoration

Object: the activity will be carried out within the framework of the project Marine Ecosystem Restoration in Changing European Seas (MERCES). The project is focused on the restoration of different degraded marine habitats, with the aim of assessing the potential of different technologies and approaches and quantifying the returns in terms of ecosystems services and their socio-economic impacts (see http://www.merces-project.eu/ for further details). Specific aims of the grant will be 1- conducting pilot restoration experiments to improving existing, and developing new restoration actions on degraded subtidal rocky assemblages, through a combination of field and mesocosm experiments, 2-contribute to the assessment of the effects of restoration on ecosystem services by collaborative efforts with partners involved within the project.

Requirements: PhD in Biology, Ecology, Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences or similar. Scientific background in marine ecology. Documented experience within the framework of descriptive / manipulative experiments dealing with coastal-marine habitats. Scuba diving certification. Good knowledge of the English language.

Announcement for a grant on citizen science in marine restoration

Object: The activity will be carried out within the framework of the project MERCES (http://www.merces-project.eu/). The project MERCES is focused on the restoration of different degraded marine habitats, with the aim of: 1) assessing the potential of different technologies and approaches; 2) quantifying the returns in terms of ecosystems services and their socio-economic impacts; 3) defining the legal-policy and governance frameworks needed to optimize the effectiveness of the different restoration approaches. The aims of the grant will be: 1) to disseminate the MERCES outcomes to the scientific and non-specialized audience for an effective and integrated restoration strategy (specific focus on water column habitats); 2) to raise awareness on restoration activities through citizen science campaigns; 3) to encourage different stakeholder groups to share knowledge and identify the best practices for restoration.

Requirements: PhD in Biology, Ecology, Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences or similar. Background in marine ecology and experience in citizen science campaigns.
